JOBSEEKERS looking for Christmas work went to a special fair in Huddersfield on Saturday morning.

Eleven big employers from Huddersfield, including the Argos, Boots, BHS, Comet and Beatties stores, were there to recruit for the busy festive season.

Beryl Price, an employer account manager with Jobcentre Plus at Castle House in Market Street, where the event took place, said: "They start recruiting from September. Positions are often there until January and for some people there's a possibility it could lead to a permanent job."

The day was aimed at anyone looking for temporary work who needed a little extra cash during what is a very expensive time of year - particularly for parents.

"People at home looking after children want additional money for Christmas," said Mrs Price.

She estimated more than 100 jobs were on offer, about 250 visitors.

Employers issued application forms on the day or fixed up interviews with would-be workers.
