A BURGLAR, described as "gormless-looking with droopy eyelids" , was spotted escaping from a house.

The man was seen outside the home on Somerset Road in Almondbury on Monday morning and police have now appealed for anyone who knows who he is to come forward.

Pc Dave McSweeney, of Huddersfield police, said: "The description we have of this burglar is very distinctive so we feel sure someone must know him."

The intruder caused damage put at £250 by smashing a window to get into the house.

A burglar alarm went off, but he managed to steal a £100 Sony DVD player and 20 DVDs, bottles of spirits and a black and red Gerioke motorcycle backpack.

The thief was white, aged about 20, 5ft 5in tall with a chubby face and light brown hair.

Witnesses said he looked gormless and had droopy eyelids. He was scruffily dressed in a large-checked thick jacket, baggy faded jeans, white pumps with a black trim, and a light brown baseball cap.

He carried a rucksack with a purple trim and a bottle of water sticking through the zip.

Pc McSweeney added: "It may be he has tried to sell the DVDs he stole."
