Who lives in a house like this? The 'family' consists of myself Ruth Gibbs, my boyfriend Lee Barker and our cat Mau. I'm a sales agent for the clothing brand Ringspun Ladies. Lee is a personal trainer, postman and singer in his band Fear the Lizard. We've been here for 18 months.

How did you find your home? I originally had no intention of living in Huddersfield or in an apartment and was actually in the process of buying an old weavers cottage in a small village. However the day I was arranging the mortgage I happened to drive back through Huddersfield and see this property that was being converted into apartments. I fell in love with the whole building immediately. It used to be the old Kayes college so it has an impressive entrance hall and an amazing stained glass window dominating the main staircase. The apartment itself was nowhere near finished and i had to wait a further 8 months till it was ready in which time i became well known to all the painters, plumbers, electricians etc. due to my many excited visits. When I finally moved in it was great because everything was brand new so nothing needed doing so I could relax.

Favourite features: What I love the most about this house is the view all the way down the valley. You can see for miles and it's just as spectacular in the evening as it is in the day. I also love the open plan aspect of the whole apartment it makes for simple living and is very sociable.

Who would it suit? A couple similar to us. It's ideally situated for the motorway and access to Huddersfield itself with a playing field and a park close by. It is a low maintenance house so suits busy people.

Your home style: I like quirky different things and tend to pick up bits as I travel round the country with my job, like my orange leather chairs that I got from a customer in Hull when he was changing his shop fit.

Where are you going next? We're not sure what our next step is. We would both love to travel the world but we need to look at our options so we'll just see what happens.
