ICY roads are being blamed for a spate of crashes early today.
In the most spectacular incident at 5.35am, a red Ford Escort skidded on Huddersfield Road in Thongsbridge and smashed into a lamp-post before flying through the air into a tree.
The car then plummeted down a 12ft drop into a wood but the driver - a man in his mid 30s - managed to scramble clear unhurt.
Huddersfield fire station watch manager Tony Bateman said: "The man certainly had a lucky escape."
* A boy suffered a head injury when a sports car hit a lamp-post at Outlane.
The MG car crashed on Round Ings Road at 7.30am.
The youngster suffered a cut to the back of his head.
The driver was shocked but unhurt.
* Two drivers were left shocked after a Ford Fiesta and a Vauxhall Nova estate crashed on Share Hill in Golcar at 7.50am.
