A COUNCILLOR is looking for ideas to spruce up Huddersfield ring road.

Clr John Smithson inspected the area to see what improvements can be made.

He said: “It’s the first thing people see when they come to the town and I’d like it to look more attractive than it does.

“The ring road doesn’t sell the town as well as it could.”

Clr Smithson is looking for suggestions for minor improvements – such as hanging baskets or new railings – which could be paid for by Kirklees Council.

He said: “We’re talking about small things, but they could have a significant effect on the area.”

Clr Smithson inspected the area with area committee co-ordinator Sue Smyth and town centre manager Cathy Burger.

Among the problems they found were cracked flagstones on Queensgate and broken glass on the corner of Albion Street.

Anyone with suggestions for improvements can call Ms Burger on 01484 487 933.
