Suspected illegal immigrants were arrested in a raid in Huddersfield.

Home Office officials swooped on a property in Crosland Moor and detained two Pakistani men who will now face deportation.

And after the operation, a Home Office spokesman revealed that had acted on a tip-off from the public - and appealed for others to come forward.

Local residents were stunned when they saw the operation unfold in Ivy Street, a quiet residential street off Blackmoorfoot Road at Crosland Moor.

An eye-witness said: “They pulled up in two large vans and a number of people got out.

“They surrounded the pub, keeping watch on every door and window, and started shouting through the letterbox that they were from the Home Office.

“Eventually they managed to get inside and a short time later, the officers led two men out of the building and into the vans.

“Other stayed there for a time”.

The Home Office confirmed Immigration Enforcement officers carried out the intelligence-led visit on the residential address on Ivy Street, Huddersfield.

The property was for many years the Ivy House pub which was built in 1927.

It was a popular local for decades but shut down several years and was boarded up for a time.

It was later bought and converted into a residential property.

A neighbour said: “There has been something strange there for some time, with people coming and going at all times of the day and night with suitcases”.
