It's a song guaranteed to bring a smile to any Huddersfield Town fan’s face.

And that’s why Huddersfield-based indie band RedStar are recording their own rocking version of the terrace classic Smile Awhile.

And the five-piece group, led by Will Bloy, will be donating the proceeds of each single sold to the Huddersfield Town Foundation.

The foundation, best known for its school breakfast clubs, helps children in the Huddersfield area.

The group hope the single, which is being recorded later this month, will get Town’s official backing.

It is hoped the song, which appeared during Town’s golden era in the 1920s, will rouse the crowds when it is played at the John Smith’s Stadium before matches.

RedStar, who hope to follow in the footsteps of celebrated indie bands such as The Stone Roses, Oasis and Kasabian, enjoyed success at the Live and Unsigned competition at London’s O2 Arena, last year.

But the band return to their Huddersfield roots with the ultimate Town tribute, which will be released at a later date.

The idea came from one of Will’s friends says band manager Russell Bowers.

He said: “He suggested writing a song for Huddersfield Town and when you think about it there’s potential for a lot of fans.

“Will is a Town fan and the rest of the musicians will just perform what he asks them to do!

“It will have the RedStar stamp on it. It’ll still be an indie-rock song.”

Mr Bowers added: “Everyone gets something out it; we get some publicity and the club foundation gets some money.”

Smile Awhile

There’s a team that is dear to its followers,

They play in the bright blue and white,

They’re a team of renown, they’re the pride

of the town,

And the game of football is their delight,

So all the while upon the field of play,

Thousands gladly cheer them on their way,

Often you can hear them say,

Who can beat the Town today?

Then the bells will ring so merrily,

Every goal will be a memory,

So Town play up and bring the cup,

Back to Huddersfield.
