Alton Towers crash victim Leah Washington has posted an inspirational photo of herself after losing part of her leg.

Teenager Leah, girlfriend of injured University of Huddersfield student Joe Pugh, was pictured on Facebook with friends and family days after having part of her left leg amputated.

She suffered horrific injuries in the theme park ride terror early last month.

In the photo - taken on June 28 - a smiling Leah can been seen arm-in-arm with friends and family smiling.

The 17-year-old, from Barnsley was with Joe at the theme park and the pair were trapped for hours after the crash on The Smiler ride.

They were among five people seriously injured in the incident, which resulted in the Staffordshire theme park closing for six days.

Leah’s leg was amputated days later, and she also suffered a fractured left hand.

Her brother Luke told last month how machines were ‘keeping her going’ while in intensive care.

Joe, who is studying textile design in Huddersfield, was released from hospital two weeks ago. He has had both his knees fractured and also suffered hand injuries.

Leah has been inundated with messages of support following the crash.

Commenting on the inspirational picture pals said how great brave Leah looks.

One wrote: “What a wonderful picture <3 xxx.”

Another said: “What a great pic, all solid good friends together. Best wishes Leah x.
