PUPILS at Denby First School have been recreating life in Tudor times.

Twenty-six pupils wore period costume and took part in activities typical of the Tudor period.

The Tudors ruled the country from 1485 to 1603.

Youngsters churned their own butter, using milk supplied by Gunthwaite Hall Farm, Lower Denby.

They roasted chickens on a spit, baked gingerbread and helped cook a Tudor banquet.

They also made pomanders, soap, lavender bags, and tried their hand at embroidery, Tudor dancing and music.

Head teacher Christine Hall, who teaches the class alongside Mrs Jenny Holmes, said: "The children have been studying the Tudors all term.

"They all looked lovely and really enjoyed the day."
