An inspirational fundraiser is aiming to scale Mount Snowdon for charity.

Huddersfield resident Charlotte Messenger, 26, who suffers with inflamatory bowel diseases Crohns and Colitis and has regular hospital treatment, will tackle the 3,560ft climb in Gwynedd, Wales, on April 25 for Crohn’s and Colitis UK.

Charlotte will undertake the gruelling 1,085 m (3,560 ft) climb with 50 fighting fit walkers, who hope to reach the summit and walk down in six hours.

She got her idea after organising several events last year for the charity, which culminated in a glamorous charity ball.

She said: “There are six routes altogether and we will be taking the longest route, called the Llanberis path, which includes both climbing and hiking and is nine miles in length.

“In between now and then, we are going to go on six practice routes to get us ready for the big day.”

It is just one of the challenges that Charlotte has planned to try top the impressive £25,000 raised by herself and a group of family and friends last year.

She began to fundraise with an 18-strong volunteering team after going into remission three years ago and also raised £2,500 for Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, which bought swallowable video capsules that help diagnose intestinal problems.

Charlotte said: “Ten brave skydivers will face a 15,000ft jump on the May 9 and we’ll be holding another black tie charity ball on May 30 at John Smith’s Stadium.”

The charity ball will be attended by Gold medal winning Paralympian Ali Jawad, the Mayor and Mayoress of Kirklees Ken and Christine Smith and Miss West Yorkshire, Amanda Nixon.

It is set to be a positive year for Charlotte, who is enjoying leading a relatively normal life.

She said: “Since coming out of hospital after the initial diagnosis of Crohn’s and Colitis, I now need to go into hospital every eight weeks for medical infusions.

“This leaves me feeling quite rundown afterwards for a day or so but apart from this I am now able to enjoy a normal life and am devoting a lot of my time to heading the fundraising team, without whom, none of this would be possible.”

Tickets to the charity ball, which will include a three course meal, live entertainment and an auction, cost £38.
