A terminally-ill doctor has been presented with her MBE at Buckingham Palace.

Wellhouse-born Dr Kate Granger, who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2011, aged just 29, received the honour for services to the NHS.

Dr Granger, who lives in East Ardsley, was appointed acting consultant in elderly medicine at Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield, and had previously worked at Dewsbury District Hospital.

She bravely chose to carry on working and wrote an online blog charting her battle with the disease. She has proved an inspiration to others and has more than 36,000 followers on Twitter.

Since her diagnosis Dr Granger has raised more than £110,000 for the Yorkshire Cancer Centre through her writing and two books she has published.

She was presented with her medal by Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales.
