SPORTS clubs across Huddersfield could get a facelift thanks to a new £50m National Lottery fund.

The Inspired Facilities Fund, announced by Sports Minister Hugh Robertson, will provide cash to bring new life to sports club buildings across the country.

There will also be money available to convert existing buildings into venues suitable for grassroots sport.

Clubs wanting to know how to apply for funding can attend a workshop to be held on Monday, August 1, in Sheffield.

Typical investments might include a sprung floor that converts an unused hall into a local multi-sport facility, new changing rooms or floodlights which mean a facility can be used for many more hours of the day.

At least £35m of the funding will go to community and voluntary groups through grants of £20,000 to £50,000.

The remaining money will be open to a wider group of organisations – including councils and schools – with grants of up to £150,000 available.

Spaces at the workshop will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.ŠFor more details and to register, go to http://www.sportengland.org
