RESIDENTS can find out about a new library and information centre in their area.

Kirklees Council plans to expand Thornhill Lees Community Centre to include a range of services.

A series of information sessions about the new library begin on Wednesday.

The first takes place at the mobile library in Paddock Surgery car park on Chapel Lane between 8.30 and 10.30am.

This will be followed by a session at the corner of South Street and Warren Street between midday and 2pm, before moving on to Pashwaaz Fabrics on Slaithwaite Road between 2.30 and 4pm.

There will be a further session at the community centre on November 8 between 5pm and 8pm.

Kirklees Council Cabinet member for leisure services Clr Liz Smaje said the new centre would be much more than just a library.

She said: “It will provide a range of services including advice on council tax.

“Residents will also be able to report problems with things like potholes and street lighting.

“The centre will also be home to a new Sure Start where children under-five and their parents can access services and information.”
