A FREIGHT train became derailed near Mirfield causing delays to local services and Grand Central’s London link.

Two wheels of the train somehow came off the tracks between Mirfield and Wakefield at 8.30am yesterday. Services between Wakefield and Huddersfield – which then head to Brighouse and Bradford – were disrupted until mid-afternoon.

Delays of up to 45 minutes were reported. Passengers with tickets for the capital had to be diverted to other stations. Buses also replaced trains on some services. An investigation into the derailment is under way.
