The Health and Safety Executive has confirmed an investigation into a skip yard accident in Slaithwaite.

A worker unloading a skip from the back of a lorry was trapped between the skip and the wheels of the lorry on Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Colne Valley Skip Hire’s yard off Clay Lane and the worker, a woman thought to be in her 60s, was freed by firefighters.

She was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance with what were believed to be chest injuries. Police confirmed she sustained serious but not life threatening injuries.

Watch Commander Matthew Green from Slaithwaite fire station told the Examiner yesterday: “She was badly pinned between the skip and the wheel and we needed to use spreading gear and hydraulic rams to free her. We worked alongside paramedics who were constantly assessing her condition and giving her pain relief. The rescue operation took around 30 minutes and she was in a lot of pain.”

A spokesman for the Health and Safety Executive confirmed an investigation had been launched. The firm declined to comment.
