AN investigation into the death of a contractor at the National Coal Mining Museum is still ongoing.
Michael Buckingham, 58, of Barnsley, was crushed to death by a piece of machinery at the museum, near Grange Moor, last month.
He was killed while carrying out excavation work to extend the underground tour facilities.
Following his death, an investigation was launched by the Health and Safety Executive Mine Inspectorate.
A spokesman yesterday said enquiries were ongoing and unlikely to be concluded for several months.
He said no further details on what happened were likely to be revealed until an inquest into Mr Buckingham’s death.
The hearing was opened in Wakefield and adjourned to a date to be fixed.
The museum closed for several days after the tragedy.
