A HUDDERSFIELD playgroup is set to start work on its new site in January.
Cowcliffe Playgroup is creating a purpose-built base in the grounds of Fixby Junior and Infant School.
The playgroup is currently based in a Scout hall on Netheroyd Hill Road.
The playgroup committee launched an appeal in January to raise £60,000 to pay for the new building.
Now, they have raised £42,000 - in cash, materials and offers of labour.
They are now in a position to start work on the site in January and hope to have the new building open by Easter.
Angela Glover, vice chairman of the group, said: "We have had an awful lot of support from lots of different people.
"When we started this appeal we would never have believed we would be at this stage so soon."
Some of the money has come in the form of grants from organisations like Sure Start and Kirklees Council.
However, donations have also been given by businesses and individuals.
Playgroup parents and committee members have also raised money by doing sponsored events - including the Great North Run and the Examiner Charity Challenge.
The latest fundraising event was a bag-packing day at Asda on Bradford Road.
Twelve mothers and staff members from the playgroup spent three hours packing customers' bags in exchange for donations and raised £365.
