KEEN Huddersfield youngsters have been doing a little extra learning during the school holidays.

Children aged five to 13 involved in the University of the First Age project have been spending time on fun educational activities.

The UFA project is run by the Kirklees Community Education and Regeneration Department and funded by council cash. It operates in primary and secondary school classrooms during term time.

In the school holidays, primary pupils head back to their classrooms for fun drama, crafts and maths-based activities, while secondary school pupils visit Huddersfield University for their activities.

Some have been doing various crafts while others have been taking part in a Robo Challenge to design and make their own robot.

Fran Perry, who works for the UFA, said: "The whole thing is about learning out of school hours in as many enjoyable ways as possible."
