A BIRKBY woman combined charity work with partying to raise money for two local causes.
Maureen Buckley, of St John's Crescent, held a garden party at her home on Sunday.
The event included quizzes, games, a plant stall and food and drink.
It was in aid of Huddersfield Royal Infirmary breast cancer unit and Promised Land, a Scissett charity which collects money to help children and families who suffer domestic violence.
Maureen said: "There is a particular reason for picking the cancer unit. A friend of mine and someone else I know were treated there this year.
"A friend also lost her daughter-in-law to breast cancer recently. She was only 32 and had an eight-year-old daughter. I thought I should do something to help."
This is the fifth garden party Maureen has hosted, helped by friends and neighbours.
She said: "It's very much a get-together, where everyone mucks in."
