PUPILS of Meltham CE School will be making giant postcards out of driftwood for a competition during Holmfirth Arts Festival.

The children will be making the cards today with Holmfirth eco-education group Fairandfunky for the group’s Holmfirth Driftwood trail.

The postcards, to be made from recycled and found materials from in and around schools, businesses and homes, will include scenes – real and imagined – of Holmfirth.

They will be placed around businesses in the village during Holmfirth Arts Festival from June 13 to 23 and visitors will be encouraged to spot all nine cards for the chance to win prizes.

Festival director Fiona Goh said: “I’m really interested in the way that festivals can change people’s perceptions of a place and I hope these postcards will make people see Holmfirth in a different light.

“They are one of many unusual things appearing throughout the festival, along with lots of free events for everyone to enjoy.”

Fairandfunky co-founder Helen Robinson said: “Our workshops encourage participants to have a sense of place in the world, and to think about where they live and the impact their actions have on their local and global community.”
