AN EXPERIENCED grower is required to launch a community allotment project.

Almondbury Children’s Centre, Farfield Road, is currently opening a community allotment, with 18 growing beds, on its grounds.

The project, funded by Kirklees Council, is co-run by Stirley Community Farm, Newsome.

The project is looking for an experienced allotment grower to teach new allotment holders how to start growing on their plots.

Volunteers should be able to devote three hours a week to the project and be happy to teach small groups of people.

Almondbury councillor Ann Denham has been involved with the project.

Clr Denham said: “It’s part of an exercise in helping people make the most of their allotments.

“It’s a great initiative on a lovely piece of land which was an allotment many years ago.

“So far there’s been plenty of people coming to the project.

“We hope to start our first planting session in the next few weeks.”
