BUSINESSES across Kirklees are celebrating after being named the greenest in the district.
The Kirklees Green Business Awards, run by Kirklees Council and the Green Business Network, were staged at Dewsbury Town Hall.
And Huddersfield roadside recovery specialist FMG Support took the top accolade of Kirklees Green Business of the Year after impressing judges with its efforts to reduce energy use, boost recycling and reduce the chances of pollution from its site.
Engineering company Cummins Turbo Technologies and landscaping firm Grace Landscapes were named Green Business of the Year for south and north Kirklees respectively.
Cummins was recognised particularly for its efforts to reduce energy use with initiatives including solar power and solar hot water. Grace Landscapes was particularly strong on recycling and reducing transport emissions.
The runners-up were textile firm Camira Fabrics and Titanic Spa for south Kirklees and sealants manufacturer Chemfix and hydraulics specialist Parker Hannifin for north Kirklees.
The prize for Best Waste Reduction Initiative went to pharmaceutical compounds manufacturer Dr Reddy’s for diverting more than 92% of waste from landfill.
Tourist spot Holmfirth Vineyard won Best Energy Reduction Initiative – relating to its new visitor centre and restaurant which not only uses wind energy, solar hot water, and ground source heat pumps, but was also built to a very high, low energy, Passivhaus standard.
