A HUDDERSFIELD man has been jailed for child sex offences.

Alexander Mroz, 46, a building labourer, of Manchester Road, Milnsbridge, was jailed for three years and four months.

He had pleaded guilty at Bradford Crown Court to indecently assaulting a girl when she was nine in 2001 and when she was 12 this year.

He will have to register on the Sex Offenders' Register for life.

Meanwhile, the number of registered sex offenders has risen 15% year on year.

Home Office figures for England and Wales showed there were 24,572 on the register at the end of March, as against 21,413 a year earlier.

But the figures showed that just 26 offenders being monitored under the scheme committed serious sexual or violent offences while on the programme, a 46% fall on the previous year.
