A Marsh man has been jailed after police discovered drugs in his sock.

Jamie Letremy, of Eldon Road, admitted possession of class C drug buprenorphine.

He also pleaded guilty to stealing £138 of meat from the Co-op in Marsden.

Kirklees magistrates were told that the offences happened on July 8.

A member of the public pointed out that the 31-year-old had stolen from the Peel Street store.

Four tablets identified as buprenorphine were found wrapped in tissue inside Letremy’s sock.

He also told police about three further thefts from Co-op branches in Lockwood and Marsh as well as Sainsbury’s in Lindley.

Catherine McCullough, mitigating, said that her client had been addicted to heroin for15 years.

He now has a prescription for a substitute but at the time of the offence failed to pick up his prescription. It is not legal to simply buy the drug – it can only be given on prescription.

Ms McCullough said: “He purchased it and wasn’t aware that he was committing an offence.”

Magistrates jailed the father-of-three for 14 days.
