LAST month was the second- warmest January in Huddersfield since records began at the town's university.
Weatherwatchers in the School of Applied Sciences say the average temperature recorded for the month was more than 1.5°C (35°F) higher than average.
The average figures are those recorded since January, 1990, at the university's weather station.
Rainfall was below average and very high wind speeds were also recorded.
The monthly mean temperature was 6.74°C (44°F), higher than the average of 5.22°C (41.5°F).
The warmest day was on Sunday January 9 with an average temperature of 11.6°C (5°F), the maximum temperature on that day being 13.8°C (57°F).
The coldest day was Saturday January 22 with an average temperature of 1.4°C (34.5°F). The lowest minimum temperature of minus 2°C (28.5°F) was on Friday the 21st.
The temperature fell below 0°C (32°F) on three days of the month.
A total of 74.8mm of rainfall fell during the month, well below the average for January of 96.98mm.
The wettest day was Friday the 7th, with 24.6mm of rainfall (32.9% of the month's total).
The mean windspeed for the month was 17.64km/hr, with the highest mean windspeed on Friday the 7th at 43.2km/hr.
The highest gust for the month was 136.44km/hr, again on the 7th.
