A Crosland Moor man has been jailed after breaching a court order when he heard that his daughter had been kidnapped.

Javid Akhtar, of Cross Street, was sent to prison for the third breach of the restraining order.

He had been banned from contacting his ex-wife following convictions for battery and threatening a witness. The order also prevented the 47-year-old from going to Tom Lane in Crosland Hill.

But he went to the house with his mother and brother on January 28.

Kirklees Magistrates’ Court heard that Akhtar was responding to a rumour that one of his daughters had been kidnapped.

Akhtar claimed that he stayed in the car while his relatives went to speak to his ex-wife.

However the Huddersfield court heard that he went into the garden and was involved in a confrontation with his former wife when she returned home from the local mosque.

Akhtar was handed the indefinite restraining order at Leeds Crown Court in August 13.

In December 2011 he was made subject to a sexual offences prevention order after admitting two sexual assault charges.

Akhtar, the former owner of a Lockwood hairdressing salon assaulted a teenage student there.

The court was told that Akhtar’s breach of the restraining order was his third.

Lucy Malpas, mitigating, said: “After the breakdown of his marriage he lives with his older parents and other members of the family.

“They’d just been informed by members of the local community that there were concerns about his eldest daughter.

“They attended at the former home address and the complainant wasn’t in at the time. She was at the local mosque but she did return and that’s when the confrontation took place.”

District Judge Michael Fanning jailed Akhtar for eight weeks.

He must also pay £80 victim surcharge.
