A man called police to confess he had assaulted his partner.

Jerome Jones attacked Danielle Jennings after she admitted that she had slept with another man.

Jones was offered a police caution on condition he attended a domestic violence awareness course.

But he said that he couldn’t find the £60 – and was hit with a court bill of £225 instead.

Kirklees Magistrates’ Court heard that the assault happened at Ms Jennings’ Oakes home on March 28.

Mark Brookes, prosecuting, said: “At 10.20pm the defendant called police to say they’d had an argument and an assault had taken place.

“Police attended and he was arrested (but) she wouldn’t give a statement in the case.”

The court heard that Jones, of Westridge Drive in Beaumont Park, lost his temper after Miss Jennings admitted that she had slept with another man.

He pushed her onto the bed and held her down by the neck but she suffered no injuries.

Mr Brookes said: “He was given a conditional caution with one condition that he booked onto an early intervention course with Pennine Domestic Violence Group.

“He’d booked a place but failed to turn up because he had difficulty raising the £60 fee.”

District Judge Michael Fanning told Jones, 41, that he would regret not paying the £60.

He ordered him to pay £120 fine, £85 court costs and £20 victim surcharge.
