VETERAN fundraiser Jerome Sullivan has set off on his latest trek.
The Fixby 74-year-old is tackling a 900-mile trip from France to Spain to raise money for the Overgate Hospice, Elland.
He expects to complete the walk across the Pyrenees from Le Puy-en-velay in France to Santiago de Compostela in Spain in around eight weeks.
He will be sleeping in hostels or the open air.
Jerome is dedicated to the hospice movement and the people who work in it.
He said: “There is a huge amount of goodwill for hospices by people and I am just hoping to play my part.
“It is the volunteers and staff who are really doing the hard work.”
Jerome walked from John o’ Groats to Land’s End to raise cash for Overgate Hospice last year.
He was the oldest of 200 walkers who tackled the recent Easter Long March around Calderdale, again to help Overgate.
Jerome was born in Halifax and was a member of King Cross Cricket Club and the Belgrave Social Club in the town.
