An appeal fund set up in memory of Jo Cox has smashed records and raised more than £1m in just four days.

The fund, launched on Friday, has become the fastest-ever crowdfunding campaign in the UK.

Backed by Jo Cox's family, it is to aid three charities: the Royal Voluntary Service, working in Batley; HOPE not hate, which challenges extremism; and The White Helmets, volunteers behind search and rescue teams in Syria.

A spokesman for Jo’s friends and family, who set up the page said: “We are overwhelmed by everyone’s incredible generosity and so grateful for all your donations.”
