A moving vigil has been held in Birstall tonight just hours after MP Jo Cox lost her life.
The event was held at St Peter's Church in the village which was packed out as tributes were paid to the 41-year-old mum-of-two.
Many of the congregation were in tears.
People of all faiths attended and the Rt Rev Paul Knight led the prayers.
He told the congregation: “In many ways we’re still numb. That’s why it’s right we should mostly be still. But there will be opportunity to talk after.
“There will be feelings of great anger and pain. We will be here for each over in the days ahead. Jo grew up in this community and she gave her life for it.
“She was someone who was deeply committed to her own family as a wife and a mother.”
People attending included Yvette Cooper, MP for Pontefract and Castleford, and Dan Jarvis, MP for Barnsley Central along with Kirklees Council chief executive Adrian Lythgo.
Dewsbury MP Paula Sherriff was understandably extremely upset as she and Jo Cox were both elected together last May.
Meanwhile vigils have been held across the country in Ms Cox's memory.
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn led tributes outside the houses of parliament earlier today.
