A CAMPAIGN to recruit thousands of soldiers into the army is coming to Huddersfield.
A recruitment event will be held on June 20 and 27 at the town’s Jobcentre Plus as part of a nationwide “Step Up” recruitment drive designed to bring 10,000 soldiers into the army over the coming year.
The Jobcentre Plus clinics will provide potential recruits with more information about the range and variety of jobs available in the army as well as a chance to meet and talk to young serving soldiers about what the army can offer.
The campaign aims to dispel the misconception that the Army is not hiring.
A new survey reveals that only half of the people polled realised that the army is looking for new recruits.
It also showed that knowing the army is recruiting would make 17% of people in Yorkshire think about it as a career.
The Step up campaign includes TV adverts showing the journey might take by following a career in the army – from the perspective of a pair of army boots.
The campaign and Jobcentre Plus clinics form part of an overhauled system designed to streamline recruitment.
Army jobs will now be advertised in job centres, and applicants will be able to apply online from anywhere in the UK. Most of the application process is now done online.
