JOBS are to go at a Huddersfield textile giant.

Z Hinchliffe and Sons, who have mills across Huddersfield, have confirmed they are to end yarn production at their Jackson Bridge site.

There are 59 people working at the site and talks on th eir future are now under way.

The firm has other sites, including their main base at Hartcliffe Mills, in Denby Dale. A spokesman confirmed the news late yesterday.

He said: “It is with great regret that the directors of Z Hinchliffe and Sons Limited have today announced to employees at Dobroyd Mills that, due to the decline in orders, a consultation period will begin today, to discuss the proposal to close down the yarn production section of Dobroyd Mills.

“Enormous changes in trade have occurred, partly due to the effects of climate change, reducing demand for the yarn products made at the mill.

“Full discussion with the employees will take place over the next few weeks to explore the possibility of keeping some form of production.

“No further information will be available until the end of the consultation with employees, which will be approximately August 19.”

The Dobroyd Mills site in the centre of Jackson Bridge is confined solely to yarn production.
