Minnie Mouse, Zippy, George and Bungle the bear are just some of the TV favourites featuring in the Farnley Fun Run.

And it’s not too late to get your fancy dress outfit sorted to run the three-mile route and raise much needed funds for Kirkwood Hospice.

Event organiser Samantha Kaye, 38, established the run four years ago to give something back to the community.

She said: “The support we receive from the community is phenomenal.

“We usually have nearly a third of entrants in fancy dress, which is fantastic.

“It’s just a family-fun event. “You can walk, jog or run. The roads are closed for an hour and there is always a great atmosphere.

“Everyone who enters will get a free bacon butty from our sponsors and will be doing something to help support a great local charity.

“Kirkwood opened the new hospice last month and it is a fantastic facility and we need the funds to come in to keep supporting it.”

Running the race this year will be Kirkwood Hospice fundraiser Kate Leadbeater who dressed up as Minnie Mouse with Samantha for a photo-call to launch the event.

Samantha added: “I’m going as Zippy from Rainbow and my husband Richard is Bungle and friend Jane Senior is George.

“They said I talk too much so that’s why I have to be Zippy but I hope I still manage to have a chat with everyone on the day!”

Also getting in on the act is Samantha’s daughter who is dressing up as Jessie from Toy Story.

Easing any aches and pains will be Huddersfield company Wellfield Physiotherapy who are offering sports massages on the day.

The event takes place on Sunday, at 10am from Butts Road in Farnley Tyas. Registration starts at 9am. Pre-register at www.farnleyfunrun.co.uk/contact.php . Entry costs £10 per person with 100% going to Kirkwood.
