HOLME Valley Mountain Rescue Team members have received awards for many years of long service.

They received their Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medals at a presentation evening at the Parochial Hall, in Marsden.

Kirklees Mayor Clr David Ridgway presented 37 team members with the medals which recognise emergency services staff, members of the armed forces, prison staff or those who have worked as volunteers.

The longest serving members to be honoured were Geoff Daniel (25 years); Chris Booth, Andrew Lister (30 years); Jeremy Daniel (35 years) and Jim Berry and David Fleming (40 years) who also received long service certificates.

Some 14 members were also presented with long service medals from 10 to 40 years by John Graham, founder of Yorkshire company Go Outdoors.

Mr Graham, a keen climber and outdoor enthusiast, said he was impressed by the work of the team both within the community and on rescues.

Also attending the evening was team president Brian Smith, a retired police officer who worked alongside the team during his career.

Long service certificates were also presented to: Nigel Bagott, Jan Bastiaans, Steve Marsland, Dave Raine (10 years); John Roberts (15 years); Gill Howarth and Graham Lockwood (20 years).
