A mum-of-two has been ordered to stay indoors this Christmas after assaulting her ex and his new partner following a chance meeting during a night out.

Jodie-Leigh Kilcoyne, of Wessendenhead Road in Meltham pleaded guilty to the two assaults at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court.

She had been drinking before the encounter in a takeaway and was upset that her former partner Karl Streets was not looking after their child as agreed.

The 24-year-old had seen Mr Streets and Stephanie Sumner, his partner of seven months, out in Meltham in the early hours of October 25.

The court heard that as Kilcoyne passed the takeaway she made a rude gesture towards Mr Streets and pulled a face.

She returned a few minutes later and made a comment about her child.

Vicky Trueman, prosecuting, said: “She started taking her footwear off (and was) shouting in an aggressive manner.

“Mr Streets was stood in front of Miss Sumner. The defendant pushed past him and punched Miss Sumner on her face.”

The couple walked away and sat on a window ledge but Kilcoyne followed them and lunged towards Miss Sumner.

Miss Trueman said: “Again Mr Streets stood up to form a barrier between them and she began to assault him.

“She punched him in the face and scratched him and he told her to calm down.

“Then she assaulted him again by punching and scratching him, headbutting him to the nose.”

The court heard that Mr Streets suffered several injuries including a deep cut to his neck.

Nigel Taylor, mitigating, said that his client was upset as her ex was meant to be with their son and not out that night.

He added that alcohol played a part in her actions which she deeply regretted.

District Judge Michael Fanning sentenced Kilcoyne to a six week curfew between 7pm and 7am starting in a week’s time.

He told her: “This is to stop you going out over Christmas.

“You can’t go out drinking and then smacking people.

“It doesn’t set a good example to your children – they don’t want to grow up seeing their mum in court.”

Kilcoyne also has to pay £150 court charge, £85 costs and £60 victim surcharge.
