An Almondbury woman has appeared in court charged with benefit fraud.

Julie Kirkham, of Aldonley, was before Kirklees Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

She faces two charges of dishonestly failing to notify a change of circumstances affecting her entitlement to a benefit.

The 30-year-old is accused of claiming more than £26,000 of income support, housing and council tax benefits she was not entitled to.

She allegedly failed to declare that she was living together with Thomas Knowles as husband and wife.

Kirkham denies the charges and her trial will take place on June 17.
