IS Huddersfield home to the UK's most expensive cocktail?

That's the claim by its creators - and there's no doubt only those with deep pockets could afford it.

Bartenders at posh town centre joint Lounge 68 have given the name Cristal Tipps to their new concoction.

And it comes in at a whopping £350.

The princely sum buys you a cocktail big enough for up to four people to share.

Its makers say it is the UK's most expensive and is second in the world only to the Ritz Sidecar, costing £277.25 at the Hotel Ritz in Paris for a one-person measure.

So what's in Huddersfield's exotic drink?

Ingredient number one is a full bottle of Cristal champagne - a favourite with the likes of Victoria Beckham and rap star P Diddy.

Then comes a hint of the finest cognac money can buy, Louis XIII brandy.

A brown sugar cube soaked in angostura bitters is added.

And last - but not least - comes a blend of more than 40 rare tropical herbs and spices.

The result is a sublime 90% proof tipple.

A Lounge 68 spokeswoman admitted it wouldn't be an everyday drink for the majority of people.

She said: "This delectably indulgent new concoction is created with cash-rich, fun-loving 20 and 30 somethings in mind.

"As any good bartender will tell you it's those extra special ingredients and finishing touches that really succeed in setting a great cocktail apart from the crowd."

So who drinks it?

Zoe Lucker, the Huddersfield actress who stars in TV's Footballers' Wives, has sampled it.

It's also been served to model Nell McAndrew and actor Max Beesley, best known for his title role in BBC1 period romp Tom Jones.

The alternative Cristal Tipps:

REPLACE the Cristal with a bottle of cheaper champagne, or possibly a supermarket Cava or fizzy sparkling wine.

Instead of Louis XIII brandy, use a cheaper brand from supermarkets. Or, since you need only a hint, pop to your local off-licence for a mini-sized bottle.

Angostura bitters are about £6 for a 200ml bottle, from the internet or Oddbins shops.

Mix and enjoy!
