A man is in hospital after falling from safety barriers in Huddersfield's Kingsgate Centre.

Witnesses in the centre say the man, who was taken for treatment by ambulance, smashed up a display in the shopping mall in Huddersfield town centre at 9.41am on Wednesday morning.

The witnesses say the man attacked a display in the Body Shop before heading across to TK Maxx.

The man then went on the downwards escalator and when he reached the bottom at the shop entrance, then headed back up on the ascending escalator.

He got to the top and is believed to have been approached and at that point clambered onto the safety railings close to the lift.

He fell from the railings onto the escalator below.

The man is believed to have been treated at the scene and was taken to hospital in an ambulance.

Body Shop remained open as normal and the TK Maxx store was cordoned off.
