Teenagers were terrified after a man allegedly threatened them with a handgun at Kirkburton Youth Club.

The incident unfolded at around 7pm last night when a man walked into the youth club in Riley Lane and had words with one of the staff.

He then allegedly returned and threatened the same person with what was believed to be a handgun before waving it towards a gang of teenagers and fleeing.

A 54-year-old local man was arrested from his home address and remains in custody.

Police have seized a replica handgun.

Det Insp Andy Leonard, of Huddersfield CID, said: “Officers responded to an incident on Monday evening at 7pm at Riley Lane, Kirkburton.

“A man walked into the youth club and spoke to a member of staff then left. A few minutes later he returned with what was believed to be a handgun and waved it towards some youths.

“Police were called. We have recovered a replica firearm.

“A number of people witnessed what happened and we are also looking at CCTV.

“A 54-year-old man remains in custody on suspicion of possession of a firearm.”
