IT began on the Isle of Mull in the Scottish Hebrides.

But tomorrow an epic charity relay across Britain, organised by the BBC’s The One Show for Sport Relief, will be arriving right here in Huddersfield.

And Kirkheaton grandmother Gillian Drury, 61, is ready and raring to run the relay and fly the flag for Yorkshire.

The teaching assistant at The Mount in Wakefield will be picked up in Bradley at 10pm tomorrow by the One Show bus – and at some point along the journey she’ll be asked to run her mile.

The grandmother-of-three is one of 1,000 runners running a mile in the relay.

It will take 10 days to complete the challenge and at least one person will be running for each hour of each day.

The route will take in towns across Scotland, England, Northern Ireland and Wales before a grand finale into the Sport Relief Mile on the Mall in London on Sunday, March 25.

All those taking part and getting sponsored will help raise much-needed cash for this year’s Sport Relief campaign.

Gillian’s daughter Sally Bailey – who now lives in London – nominated her mum for the challenge.

Gillian said: “I hope it’s not going to be too hard-going, I’m sure it’ll be okay but I’m still nervous.

“I run about three to four miles a week and I go to the gym.

“And I’ve run quite a lot of half marathons and 10ks for charity.”

The One Show will be showing highlights from the event throughout the week, and the finish will happen during the Sport Relief Mile Show, presented by The One Show hosts Alex Jones and Matt Baker this Friday on BBC1.
