A playgroup heavily criticised by Ofsted is back on the right track.

Following a monitoring visit, inspector Helen Blackburn said that Kirkheaton Playgroup had taken speedy and effective action to address its weaknesses.

After a full inspection last January, the playgroup, based at the village community centre, was issued with a notice to improve.

Ofsted found a number of areas of concern, including the fact that they were not able to inspect all documents as a member of staff had gone home with the relevant key. The inspectorate also said that parents were not informed how to contact Ofsted and group activities did not match the needs of all age groups.

However, the latest report stated: “The inspector found that you have developed an appropriate action plan to address the issues raised at your last inspection. You have welcomed support from your local authority and continue to work closely with them to further improve your practice. This has enabled you to accurately prioritise the areas for improvement identified at your last inspection.”

All parents now receive a welcome booklet and have the opportunity to comment on their child’s progress report, and assessments have improved.

In addition, arrangements have been made for the key to the store cupboard to be on site at all times.

The playgroup is run by the Emma Greaves & Jenny Donaghy Partnership and has 22 children on its roll.
