A KIRKHEATON social club has reached its 60th birthday.
Members of the village’s Senior Citizens’ Club got together to celebrate the occasion.
Chairman David Lock said: “The atmosphere was unbelievable, everyone’s spirit was really lifted.”
Mr Lock, 74, has been a member of the social club since he retired along with wife Jean, 64.
The club formed in April 1949 and was known as the Kirkheaton Old Folks’ Club.
The first meeting raised eight shillings for general funds.
Over the years the club has celebrated two 100th birthdays.
Longest-serving members are Mr and Mrs Midgley.
The celebration event was attended by members of the Kirkburton Parish Council, the Rev Leslie Noon, minister of the United Church, and the Rev Richard Steel, rector of the parish church.
Guests were entertained with live music and took part in a raffle.
