SENIOR councillors will be asked to approve £760,000 for a major road improvement scheme.
Kirklees Cabinet will have to approve funding for the road resurfacing of several Heckmondwike roads. They are Frost Hill, Flush, Westgate from Flush to Queen Street, High Street (A638), Batley Road (B6123) and Oldfield Lane.
Provision was made in May when Kirklees Cabinet earmarked £23m towards road repairs over the next two years.
Cabinet papers for Tuesday’s meeting show the scheme will improve a 2km length of road.
The current backlog of A-road repairs is around 10km with A638 Heckmondwike contributing 0.6km towards that figure.
The report says: “This route through Heckmondwike is a very busy commuter route at peak times for residents heading out of Heckmondwike, in either the direction of Bradford or Wakefield.”
If approved the works will have a five-year protection from utility excavations unless in an emergency situation.
