KIRKLEES College will join the national debate on the importance of engineering apprenticeships.

Andrew Roberts, learning and assessment co-ordinator of engineering, has been invited to a national apprenticeship dinner in London to discuss the future of engineering and apprenticeships.

Mr Roberts said: “I am very happy and honoured to be asked to the dinner which has come about as a result of my involvement in gaining an IMechE accreditation for Kirklees College and my own IMechE membership.

“We have excellent engineering apprenticeships in Kirklees and I will be drawing on my knowledge and experience locally to inform the debate.”

He will join MPs, parliamentarians and other IMechE representatives to discuss engineering.

Nationally 93% of manufacturing employers are looking to take on good quality staff in the next 12 months.
