Students are banking on a successful future after work experience with a national bank.

Lloyds Banking Group has so far provided work experience to 11 students from Kirklees College through the college’s KC Works programme.

IT student Neelum Babar and business student Ruksar Rafiq completed a week with the Halifax bank in Dewsbury, learning key skills, shadowing employees and had a mock interview.

Neelum said: “It was great to see what routes are available, particularly in IT. I was thinking about going to university, but now I’m looking at other options such as apprenticeships.”

Ruksar added: “I have really enjoyed the experience and have decided to apply for an Apprenticeship with Lloyds. I didn’t even know that they offered them.”

Belinda Healey, from the bank, said: “It can be quite daunting at first for the students but the team is really welcoming, so they feel part of it and want to learn and we find this helps them get a lot out of it.”

The KC Works programme was started in partnership with recruitment company Stafflex to help young people boost their work skills through work experience with local employers.
