There were nuns, priests and naughty schoolgirls.

But their frolics in Huddersfield were very much appreciated by the authorities.

For the people who chose outlandish costumes were students from Kirklees College celebrating success.

They marked the end of their first year of studies with a stunning show

The characters including the priests and nuns were portrayed by students taking part in this year’s Degree Showcase by Kirklees College HE performing arts students.

The FdA acting and performance students from the college’s Highfields Centre for Music, Performance and Media in Huddersfield put on two plays including one written by curriculum team leader Mark Oliver and the comedy Once a Catholic by Mary O’Malley.

Once a Catholic shows a retrospective view of the values of 1950s Catholic convent schools and the female adolescent response.

And Mark’s play Vermeer was an abstract piece about a painter and his children.

A college spokesman said: “The higher education course launched at Kirklees College this academic year, so this is the first degree showcase the college has held.

“In addition to the degree-level course in acting, the creative industries department will soon be offering FdA modern musicianship in performance and technology and FdA Film, TV and Commercial Production”.
