A conman has struck at a number of north Kirklees homes, taking hundreds of pounds in cash.

Police have issued an e-fit of a man they would like to speak to following a number of incidents in which people have been conned out of money by a suspect who purports to be a local official.

At 4:15pm last Monday, a 93 year-old-man was subject to a distraction style burglary on Leeds Old Road in Heckmondwike in which £500 was stolen.

The following day at 10am, an elderly victim received a visit from a man on Valley Road in Liversedge asking to inspect the premises for damage. He informed them that £12,000 of work was required, but was asked for identification and left the property.

At 2:45pm the same day, a man attended an address of elderly residents on Thomas Street in Liversedge suggesting work had been completed on a roof and that payment was required. He subsequently left the address empty handed.

Later in the afternoon, an 86-year-old man on Westfield Way in Heckmondwike received a call at around 4pm from a man purporting to be a council official. The victim later noticed his wallet and a cash tin had been taken containing a total of £240.

In the majority of the cases, the suspect was described as white, in his 40s or 50s, around 5ft 7ins tall and had an Irish accent.

Any witnesses to these incidents or anyone with information as to those responsible is asked to contact Sergeant Mark Gregory at Dewsbury CID on the non emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
