A SPECIAL investigation into children’s centres changes will take place next week.

Kirklees Council’s Children and Young People’s Scrutiny Panel will hold a five-hour hearing into the controversy on Tuesday.

The council’s Labour Cabinet decided last month to slash spending on the 32 children’s centres in the district by £725,000.

Six opposition councillors have signed a “call-in” notice – meaning a special cross- party panel will investigate the decision.

The group can make recommendations to Cabinet – but can not force a U-turn.

Councillors and members of the public can speak at the panel meeting, which begins at 10am at Huddersfield Town Hall.
