TUESDAY night could be the start of huge changes in your area.

Thousands of homes could be built and green spaces could be lost.

But thousands of jobs could be created in the business parks which could get land zoned for them and livelihoods and verve brought back to the local economy.

The extraordinary meeting to discuss the Kirklees Local Development Framework, which sets out how land can be used and developed across our area, will not be without controversy.

Some will want to keep the status quo while others will vote for change - but our local government reporter Barry Gibson will be on hand to keep you updated all the way.

Barry will be using Twitter to tell you the latest news on the meeting, which starts at Huddersfield Town Hall from 5pm on Tuesday.

His reports, plus Twitter messages from councillors, will be fed immediately into our liveblog below giving you news as it happens about your area.

You can also interact and make your views known about what's happening and debate online the pros and cons of any changes - or indeed no changes.

Here's Barry's quick summary of the situation so far - and links to previous reports we've written on the LDF.

"So here we are again, just 15 weeks after the last epic LDF meeting at Huddersfield Town Hall.

"As you may remember, last time round Labour, the Lib Dems, Greens and independents agreed a planning blueprint for Kirklees for 2028.

"The framework, which was opposed by the Conservatives, would allow 22,470 new homes to be built in the district in the next 15 years – including 1,000 on green belt land in South Dewsbury and 500 in Chidswell between Dewsbury and Batley.

"There would be no new housing on green belt land in south Kirklees.

"Some 122 hectares would also be released for employment use: 42 hectares at Cooper Bridge, 35 at Chidswell, 15 each at Clayton West and Birstall, 10 at Cleckheaton and five in Meltham.

"However, councillors agreed in November to delay this plan because of a legal problem.

"That's all been cleared up and now, if adopted, the LDF proposal would then go to the Government for approval in August or September and would come into force in 2013."

Here are a selection of stories covering November 2011's 13-hour meeting and the aftermath, taking us up to the latest development.
