School holidays will continue to vary between neighbouring authorities in West Yorkshire.

Kirklees Cabinet members set out the dates for the 2015/16 school year.

But there continues to be differences which the council admits “could have potential impact on attendance of pupils for some schools” and is “challenging” to fully co-ordinate dates with neighbouring councils”.

Clr Shabir Pandor, Cabinet member for schools, said: “A lot of it is policy and regulation driven.”

Dates approved by Cabinet are:

Autumn term: begins Tuesday 1 September 2015; half term Monday 26 October 2015 to Friday 30 October 2015; ends Friday 18 December 2015.

Spring term: begins Monday 4 January 2016; half term Monday 15 February 2016 to Friday 19 February 2016; ends Thursday 24 March 2016.

Summer term: begins Monday 11 April 2016, half term Monday 30 May 2016 to Friday 3 June 2016; ends Wednesday 20 July 2016.

The September start date varies by one week in Calderdale and Leeds and Bradford will have shorter autumn half term holidays.

The spring term will see Barnsley, Sheffield and Wakefield finish their half term holiday a week earlier than Kirklees.

Kirklees admits it could cause problems for families with children at different schools in neighbouring authorities and affect school staff working in one authority but with children in another.
